Genesis Chapter One paraphrased

Genesis Chapter One paraphrased

In the beginning the Bible tells…Heaven and earth were made… created… spoken into existence.

John 1 tells us through Him all things were made and nothing was made that was made (that wasn’t created by Him).
There was something that was nothing and it was deep and dark waiting to be brought to life.

And God said, let there be light… And particles and wavelengths made up of atoms – protons, neutrons and electrons -- came together with a constancy of speed and illuminated the darkness and set up all kinds of properties awaiting discovery through what we call science that included reflection, refraction, dispersion, interference, diffraction, diffusion, polarization, and color to name a few.

And God saw it was pleasing and useful. He affirmed and sustained it; he distinguished it from darkness calling it day and calling the darkness night.

And there was evening and morning, for one day.

Then God said… let there be an expanse between the waters… and He spoke… and  an atmosphere filled with nitrogen, offset with oxygen, carbon dioxide, water vapor, and hints of other gases we know now to be argon, neon, helium, krypton and such, filled the expanse.

And layers were created for our discovery – the troposphere, the stratosphere, mesosphere and thermosphere – and for our protection to absorb dangerous light rays and radiation from a sun that wasn’t created yet… and for our pleasure… for it is in the thermosphere that the aurora borealis and the Southern and Northern lights occur. To God be the Glory!

And it was just as He commanded and there was evening and morning a second day.

Then God spoke and told the waters to gather together and for dry land to appear….

And so water -- an essential component for life that we drink, cook with, clean with, bathe with, play with and on (in colder climates), find beauty in, travel on, harvest energy from,  and helps grow food --- did as it was told and has given us a glimpse of an incredible Creator who provides for our needs.

Water was made to regulate the earth’s temperature.

Its surface tension allows things to float, makes rain fall in droplets, and keeps water from immediately evaporating. Scientifically we have discovered it in multiple forms. And for our pleasure, water absorbs the red parts of the color spectrum and scatters the blue parts giving us a blue ocean.

Then the land appeared as it was told to do and has remained in place as a permanent, fixed quantity, immovable and basically indestructible, with a quality of fertility in order for plants to grow and reproduce.

He prepared it for the creatures that were not yet created knowing 95% of our basic needs are obtained from land. And he prepared it for our pleasure allowing the possibility for a variety of landscapes for us to enjoy even now in this present time – post-flood.

It was tilted on an axis and set in rotational motion with a magnetic field and gravity to keep us safely on the ground.

And he told the land to sprout vegetation to produce seeds and fruit according to what they were created to be.

And God saw it was good and affirmed and sustained it.

And there was evening and Morning a third day.

Then God was done creating various forms of settings, and said…

Let there to be light bearers in the sky beyond our atmosphere in the expanse of the heavens…

let them be used to give meaning to time, marking seasons, days, and years, and let them be useful for signs showing God’s provident care and providing light on the earth.

And it was just as He commanded and light filled the heavens.

And He gathered together an enormous ball of spacious energy full of solar winds, magnetic fields and sunspots and set it in the center of our solar system to provide the light and heat necessary to support life not yet created on earth and to provide for the plants that were created the previous day.

Then he put a unique light source in a unique orbit on the same plane with which the earth orbits the sun. It is unlike any other object orbiting a planet. It’s size and orbit stabilize the earth’s tilt from going askew and keep us from being too hot or too cold.

In His Creativity to provide for our pleasure this unique orbit allows for our changing seasons. This night light in the sky controls the ebb and flow of water on the earth and gives us what we call the Harvest moon, the Strawberry moon, and the Hunter’s Moon to name a few. By it we set our calendars to keep track of time.

God provided these lights for us to define the day and the night. And God saw it was good and affirmed and sustained it. And there was evening and morning a fourth day.

Then God looked at the empty sky and water He had gathered… And He said Let the waters swarm with living creatures, let birds soar in the open expanse above the land. And He filled the water with great sea monsters and all those creatures that move in the water and those that soar above the earth. And these were made to reproduce after their own kind.

And God saw it was good and affirmed and sustained it.

And He pronounced a blessing of life upon the creatures he had made, and there was evening and morning a fifth day.

Then God in His creativity filled the land… and He said…

let the earth be filled with living creatures according to their kind. And that’s how animals are separated into classes, because God created them to be separate and distinct, reproducing after their kind – livestock and crawling things and wild animals. And it was as He commanded.

And He saw it was good and affirmed and sustained it all.

Then God looked at Himself and said, Let Us (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit) make man in our image, with a spiritual personality and moral likeness. Let’s give them the responsibility for caring for the fish of the sea, the birds of the air, the cattle and everything that creeps and crawls on the earth.

And so God did this… making man in His image He created male and female.

And He pronounced a blessing of life on them, granting them authority to care for His creation.

He gave them and every creature on earth the plants he had made for food.

And God saw everything He had made and behold it was very good and He validated it completely.

And there was evening and morning a sixth day.

And so the heavens and earth were formed and filled to completion with all God intended.

Having completed the work He had done, God rested on the seventh day.

And He pronounced a blessing, sanctifying it as holy and set apart from the other days.

This is the history and origin of the heavens and earth.
